Nurturing Arts

Nurturing Arts

Connecting the Mind, Body & Spirit…

Through a specialized nurturing arts program, the hospice or Palliative Care patient is offered alternative therapies of a holistic nature that can engage and improve their quality of life. By addressing the physical, emotional, cognitive and social needs of the patient, it adds an extra dimension of care to Homestead’s commitment to providing best practices in hospice services. Various therapeutic interventions such as music, art, exercise and theater will assist the patient with self-expression.

Art Therapy

The power of creativity is monumental, and it can help deal with life’s issues. It helps to build a renewed sense of life satisfaction while also providing a safe way to explore:

  • Loss
  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Changes in health

Dance Therapy

For older adults dancing can be very therapeutic. Dance therapy provides a supportive environment for the patient to express their feelings and share life experiences through movement.

Exercise Therapy

As a person ages, they may become restricted in their movement due to an illness or symptoms of their disease. To help the patient stay limber and to alleviate pain, Homestead offers several forms of exercise that can be managed with limited mobility.

  • Tai vhi
  • Yoga
  • Chair aerobics

Music Therapy

Music therapy can have many positive results especially for those patients with dementia or Alzheimer’s. In numerous clinical studies of older adults with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia, familiar music, has reduced depression; lessened agitation and increased sociability, movement, and cognitive ability.

Theatrical Therapy

Watching a performance as simple as a puppet show can awaken the mind and bring a healing laughter.

  • Puppetry
  • Storytelling
  • Magic
  • Clowns
